Esurance Auto Insurance
Esurance Insurance Services, Inc. is an American company that originally started offering vehicle and home insurance directly to U.S. consumers in 1999. Its direct-to-consumer approach – employing the phone and an innovative online platform – quickly gained popularity with customers, and Allstate purchase Esurance in 2011. Today, Esurance operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Allstate.
The company expanded into Canada in 2015, offering insurance services in Alberta. Ontario expansion came two years later. Unfortunately, since July 2018, Esurance Canada has ceased to offer new policies to customers and sold policy-renewal rights to Ivantage, a broker within The Allstate Group.
Esurance Makes It Easy
The goal of Esurance is to simplify purchasing and managing your insurance policy. You undergo the entire process of applying for auto insurance through an Esurance online platform, to which you upload all required documents. If you run into any problems, don’t worry. A 24/7 support line is available through Esurance Call Center.
The company focuses on streamlining the process of purchasing and managing insurance policies by avoiding esoteric language and minimizing the amount of paperwork required to apply for an insurance policy. This empowers customers to take control of their insurance needs and feel safer with the choices they make.
Paperwork can’t be completely eliminated, but Esurance keeps it to an absolute minimum. Whether you want to check on the status of Esurance car insurance, or file a claim, Esurance handles the tasks through a member-only website that is easy to navigate and use.
About Esurance
Internet expansion and technological advancements have enabled companies to pursue alternative ways of reaching and managing their products and customers. As a result, companies are developing new business models that lean heavily to online solutions and services that consumers can access 24 hours a day, seven days a week, without leaving the comfort of their homes.
Esurance emerged in this business climate, along with other direct-to-consumer insurance providers, such as GEICO and Progressive. The business model quickly became prominent because customers found that it took less time and money to get the insurance policy they need, all the while maintaining full control of the process.
Esurance’s Expansion into Canada
Esurance’s headquarters are in San Francisco, California, and its insurance services initially were available only within that state. By 2000, Esurance expanded into 24 states in the United States. Traditional insurance providers, such as Allstate, were losing policyholders to Esurance, GEICO, and Progressive, which eventually triggered Allstate’s plans to acquire Esurance.
At the time of acquisition in 2011, Esurance was offering its services in 30 U.S. states. Allstate spent about $1 billion to acquire the company, providing wider U.S. coverage and international expansion. Expansion into Canada began in 2015, with Esurance offering insurance policies in Alberta. Ontario expansion followed in 2017. Esurance did cease to offer new policies in Canada in 2018, though, though it continued to serve existing customers. In 2018, Esurance also sold policy-renewal rights to Ivantage, another Allstate subsidiary.
How Can You Save with Esurance?
Thanks to its streamlined business model and use of an online platform, Esurance maintains low operating costs compared to traditional insurance providers. These reduced costs enable the company to offer a significant discount on insurance policies. Here are just a sample of those discounts:
- Multi-vehicle discounts – if you decide to insure more than one car with Esurance, the company offers you a discount on each policy.
- Switch & Save – If you decide to switch from another insurance provider, Esurance provides you a discount on its standard policy pricing.
- Partnership discounts – New drivers that decide to complete driver and safety training provided by one of Esurance partners are eligible for a discount on their car insurance.
- Online Shopper Savings – by deciding to use Esurance’s online platform and apply for an insurance quote online, you are eligible for a discount.
- Paperless discounts – new customers in Ontario that decide to apply for insurance directly online are eligible for a 10% discount.
In addition to all the discounts that Esurance offers, the member website delivers an extensive knowledge base about different types of policies and coverages available, as well as tips for saving money on insurance premiums. That includes tools such as Coverage Counsellor, which offers advice about choosing the right insurance coverage for your needs, all via an online questionnaire. The customer remains at the center of the business model.
How To Submit A Claim With Esurance Insurance
Customers were given access to Esurance’s exclusive members-only website, enabling them to file and oversee claims digitally. Once a claim was submitted, a dedicated claims representative would contact the claimant for additional details. This representative would also organize a vehicle inspection and assist with various steps of the claims procedure, such as securing a rental car.
